7. Using the Toilet

It may seem impossible to teach your Shih Tzu to use the toilet, but it isn't.

While it is certainly one of the harder tricks to teach, the end result is well worth it.

In addition to being a cool trick, this is also great for those who can't take their Shih Tzu outside a few times each day and for those that work extended periods.

To start, give a command each time your dog goes outside to the bathroom. You can use the order 'go to the toilet' or anything else that you find suitable.

After doing this for some time, your pet will associate this command with going outside to the bathroom.

You can practice this outside before taking this indoors. Once you feel comfortable that your dog has learned the command, bring a plastic litter box outside. Plae your dog's front paws into the container while saying the command.

With practice, your dog will associate using the litter box with the command that you use. Once you've both grown comfortable with this, you can bring the box back inside. First, place it by the front door. Then begin to gradually move it toward the bathroom.
