Origins of DBT Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) developed in the early 1990’s from the work of Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. Linehan, a cognitive behavioral psychologist by training, formed the principles, theory and strategies underlying DBT while working primarily with women who were suicidal and engaged in self-harming behaviors. 'Emotions are not right or wrong, good or bad, smart or stupid. 'All emotions, including painful and negative emotions, communicate and motivate.' 'Painful and negative emotions are part of everyone's life.' 'I do not need to act on all my emotions.' Matthew McKay, PhD, is a professor at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA.He has authored and coauthored numerous books, including The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook, The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook, Self-Esteem, Thoughts and Feelings, When Anger Hurts, and ACT on Life Not on Anger. Program consists of 12 sessions with the goal of training the individual to use active behavioral or cognitive coping methods to deal with prob-lems, rather than relying on alcohol as a maladaptive coping strategy. The skills also provide a means of obtaining social support critical to the maintenance of sobriety. Twelve-Step Facilitation Approach. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy.Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others.

Description

This webinar provides an introduction to Prevent-Teach-Reinforce for Young Children (PTR-YC). PTR-YC is an evidence-based model that classroom teams can use to resolve patterns of serious challenging behavior. PTR-YC is a user-friendly model of positive behavior support that is intended to help young children whose challenging behaviors are compromising their social, emotional and intellectual development. The webinar offers a description of the background and procedures of PTR-YC along with a case study to illustrate the PTR-YC process.

About the Presenters

Glen Dunlap, PhD, has conducted research and training on human behavior for over 40 years. His work has focused on autism and developmental disabilities, early childhood intervention, applied behavior analysis and positive behavior support, foster care, and families. He was a founding editor of the Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions and served as editor of Topics in Early Childhood Special Education for 10 years. He has published over 250 articles, books and book chapters, including the books in the Prevent-Teach-Reinforce series. Glen lives in Reno, NV and is associated with the University of Nevada, Reno.

What Is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Janice Lee, MEd, BCBA, is a member of the research faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno and a doctoral student in early childhood special education. Rigs of rods mac download. Her experience and interests include early childhood, challenging behavior, positive behavior support, social and emotional development, autism, and working with families. She has a master’s degree in early childhood special education and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Since 1995, she has worked with children, families, practitioners and professionals at the local, state, and national level as a practitioner, consultant, coach, trainer and technical assistance provider.
